My Favorite Team Name Ever

There’s 45 minutes left in 10 and under soccer camp. It’s officially time for the round-robin tournament. I, not so randomly, make teams and then I approach the teams one by one.

“You have three seconds. What’s your team name?” The child looks excited yet panicked. “Three, two, one. Too late. Your team is The Maggots.”

Next team. “You have three seconds. What’s your team name?” The kid stutters something unintelligible. “Three, two, one. Too late. Your team is The Cockroaches.”

Next team. “You have three seconds. What’s your team name? Three, two-“

“Our name is eh.”

“What was that?”

“Eh,” he says while putting his lips together, slightly raising his eyebrow and tilting his head to the side.

“As in E, H – eh?”

“Yeah, with those three dots after it.”
